Here's how you make a dedi for all who wonder:
1. Use a laptop/ junky machine that costs about 30 bucks to put together. The laptop is selfexplainatory. The machine, just get some RAM, memory, a video card, a 2-10 Gig hard drive, some version of Windows between ME-XP, an internet card, and sound is optional but most motherboards come with it. You also need a mouse, keyboard and monitor. You can, in fact probably should use a KVM switch, if you use a spare machine - this means - having more than one computer on one keyboard/mouse/monitor.
2. Sign up/log in www.fileplanet.com. Signing up is free. Don't be intimdated by the "pricing" section and stuff that has prices. If you get lost, talk to me and I'll lend you my account to get this stuff.
3. Download and install the following:
Halo PC Dedicated Server Map Pack
Halo PC Dedicated Server 1.02
Halo PC Dedicated Server 1.02-1.05
Halo PC Dedicated Server 1.06
You will also need to install Halo on the same computer, you can use the same key number, but Halo has to be present on the Dedicated computer to tell the dedicated server which ports to use. Remember to get the Halo updates!
With 1.06, you get a file called haloded.exe. Just copy and paste over your existing haloded.exe from the old one.
4. If you have a firewall/router or anything that blocks you from the world - you will need to open the ports 2303 and 2304 (START|2303| - END|2304|) by default. These are UDP/TCP (both).
Everything from here on out should explain itself. If not - PM me here, add me to your Yahoo, xfire, and AIM all use my universal screename = malcomtidus, or email me at malcomtidus@yahoo.com. YOU WILL NEED A DIFFERENT COMPUTER TO RUN A SERVER AND PLAY ON IT AT THE SAME TIME. I did find a way around this once, I just can't remember how - I was able to play on the same computer as my server, however, once I deleted the Halo PC Dedicated Server off of my main computer, so now I don't remember. If I can find the way to do this, you can skip all of step 1. I use my laptop as a slave (hahahaha) and it runs the server(s) while I play.
My dedi is {PRO}AllRockets on regular Halo. Operation hours= around 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM - the hours do flex daily.
My new one should be called {PRO}ClanServer on regular Halo. Operation hours are presumed to be same as AllRockets.
